I marveled much how I should please, And have him feel quite at his ease-- He was so young a guest you see. But though he was so young and small, My powers were not taxed at all. In everything he found delight, Contented, happy all the day, Thoughtful of me in sweetest way-- Dear little lad, he won me quite. At evening when he went upstairs, Knelt in white robes to say his prayers, Her was so very near the throne, That when my name I heard him speak, Blessings for me from God to seek, I felt that they would be my own. And now he's gone, I sorely miss His childish words, his loving kiss-- A charming guest indeed was he; That little boy with hair of gold and brightest eyes, but five years old, Who came so far to visit me.
