a. Note:   Named for the noble Mayor of New York City who stood Godfather for him. Richard Varrick Waldron, son of Joseph Waldron, was a legal descendent of Harlem Patentees, under the British Governor, Thomas Dongon. Said patent given,A.D., 1686.Patentees are the Baron Resolved Waldron and his son Barrent and Cornealus M. Johnson, Father-in-law of Barrent Waldron. Katherine Waldron Hopperstead wrote this about Richard, who was her Grandfather."Richard Varrick Waldron, as a soldier of Fortune, was first lieutenant under Bolivar, who was fighting for Venezuela's independence and was afterwards first President. Richard spoke four languages and went as a spy off his own boat to Havana for information against the Spaniards concerning commercial trade. He was caught, but pleaded to American Counsulas an American citizen. He was put on an American Merchantman bound for Boston, and on the way the boat was fired on, first on Bow and then stern, and Grandpa told the Captain of the American boat that it was his boat- so they stopped and he got on his own boat and went back to Venezuela. Soon after Bolivar was dethroned and Grandpa came back to the United States- and commanded his own boat between New York and Liverpool. Afterward he got a commission in the U.S. Navy as second Lieutenant and went to the West Indies fighting pirates- Was wounded across the forehead boarding a pirate vessel. He was there four years, then came back to the U.S. for a few days, then sent to the Mediterranean for six years, and there watched the famous fight of England, France, Germany and Russia against Turkey. Under Commodore McDonna as Commanding Captain of fleet, Farragut was first lieutenant. Grandpa as second in command brought McDonna home on the Brig Erie - carrying twenty seven guns."
