Notes
a. Note:   Eleanor Templeton lived on land (200 acres on Davidsons Creek) boughtfrom James Templeton, for 5 pounds, in 1776. The fact it was deededfor a token sum strongly suggests that James was indeed the father ofGeorge. This land was part of a land grant to James Templeton by deedbearing the date of 9 Jan 1861, certified in Rowan Co, Novembersession, 1783. George Templeton's Tombstone reads, "Aged 69, 2 June1820". George's children and one grandson 'Oni" are named in his will. Little is known about the military service of George Templeton otherthan the fact that he was a loyalist during the Revolutionary War.Private George Templeton is listed on the muster of Lt Col JohnHamilton's Co, Royal NC Reg 24 Oct 1781. He received pay for 61 daysof service, 25 Oct - 24 Dec 1781. The following anecdote is takenfrom 'Mecklenburg Signers and Their Neighbors', on 1 Feb 1781, GeneralWilliam Lee Davidson, the famed Patriot leader, was killed at Cowan'sFord. His body was taken to the home of Samuel Wilson, Sr., Where itwas prepared for burial. His widow, Mary Brevard Davidson who residedsome miles, perhaps where Davidson College is now located, was broughtdown immediately by a neighbor, George Templeton. Late in the eveningof the same day, they carried the remains of General Davidson toHopewell Church and buried him by candle light.
