Notes
a. Note:   ecorded in tax, census, estate, church and cemetery records twenty two times as Dudley TEMPLETON. Catholic Vital Records record on May 13, 1861, daughter Mary Jane Templeton was received into the Catholic church and May 14, 1861 Mary Jane Templeton married Michael Mullan. Their son John R. served in the 205th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers, under the name of John R. Templeton. John R. 's death certificate was recorded as John R. Templeton, signed by his son, David J. Templeton. In his wife Esther's obituary, her last name was spelled Templeton and in her sisters, Margaret Soulsby, Isabella Soulsby and Mary Soulsby Nagle's obituaries, her name is recorded as Esther Templeton. When her father James Soulsby died in 1854, Esther Templeton and her husband Dudley Templeton were left $51.00 and she and Dudley signed the document. Dudley, Esther and their daughter Mary Ann were recorded in the records of Altoona Fairview Cemetery as Templeton. They are buried in the Soulsby family plot with Esther's mother Jane, sisters Isabella and Margaret, brother Matthew. As you can see, it is a mystery why his children changed their name to Templon.

Daughter Mary Jane: 1880 census, father born in PA; in 1900 census, father born in Maine. Son John R: 1880 census, father born in England; recorded on John R's death certificate, father born in Vermont. Son James Samuel: 1880 census, father born in England; in 1900, father born in Maine, but there was other incorrect information given in that census also. 1910, father born in PA, 1920, father born in PA. Son Matthew: 1900 census, father born in PA. Daughter Isabella: 1880 census, father born in Mass.; in 1900, father born in PA. Son George Alfred's death certificate, father born in PA. Therefore, it is possible that Dudley was born in Pennsylvania, England, Maine, Mass. or Vermont according to the information given by his children.
Note:   Birthplace of Pennsylvania was recorded in the 1850 and 1860 census rec
