Note: In 1920, Iva D., age 10/12 (actually 5 months old), born in Tennessee, was living with her parents in District 4, Claiborne Co., TN. In 1930, Ivadelle, age 10, was living with her family in District 4, Quarter Precinct, Claiborne Co., TN; she attended school that year. Unlike her sister Icie, Iva Dell was able to attend high school in Sneedville although it was in Hancock County. Sometime after that, when a friend of the family went to Rhode Island, she took Iva Dell with her. While there, Iva Dell got a job as a domestic housekeeper for a friend of Bob's parents which is how she and Bob met. They got married in Rhode Island. During WWII, Iva Dell and Bob lived on Spring St. in Greensboro, Guilford Co., NC, where Bob was stationed at the Army Air Force ORD (Overseas Replacement Depot) sometime between 1943 and 1946. Iva Dell's brother-in-law, Ira Burke, was one of the thousands of soldiers who was processed there before being sent overseas. Two decades later, her niece Bertha Lee would move to Greensboro and raise her family there. By 1946, Iva Dell and Bob were living in Louisville, Jefferson Co., KY, where their only daughter was born. Bob was still in military service at that time and stationed at or near Fort Knox. Later, they returned to Bob's home state of Rhode Island where Iva Dell died of leukemia at the age of 29. (One source indicated that she died of kidney failure, but her nephew Carl said that she went downhill fast and died within the same year that she was diagnosed with leukemia. He did say that she may have had kidney failure as a result of the leukemia, but he couldn't confirm that.)
