Notes
a. Note:   EFFIE ADAMS JOHNSON BEATON 1884-1953 Effie was the fourth child of Samuel and Margaret. She was born in Taney County Missouri on 30 October 1884. When she was 13 and a half years old and with her parents consent, Effie married 16 year old, Henry Moses Johnson, the son of Adam and Sarah Johnson. The marriage records of Taney County show her marriage to Henry M. Johnson on the 19th of June 1898: Married: Johnson, Henry M. (Under 21) Brown Branch Adams, Effie (Under 18) Brown Branch 19-Jun-1898 L. C. Guthery, MG B 2 p 348 Parents have given their assent to said marr. Henry and Effie had one son Levy Johnson (pronounced Levvie) born in 1899. Effie was probably pregnant at the time of her wedding to Henry. Effie's marriage to Henry was a short one, just 22 months. It ended with Henry's death on 29 April 1900 when he was only 18 years old. He is buried in Taney County Missouri in the Bethel Cemetery. Effie and her in-laws Adam & Sarah moved to Olympia Washington sometime after Henry's death. Effie is listed in the 1910 Census of Thurston County living with her father and mother- in-law, Adam & Sarah Johnson, as a 26 year old widow and with her 11 year old son, Levy. Sometime between 1910 & 1920 she married a Canadian named, Hugh Beaton. They are shown as husband and wife living with Effie's in-laws, Adam & Sarah Johnson, in Olympia on the 1920 Census. Effie's 20 year old son, Levy, is with them. We have a good picture of Effie and Levy taken about 1910. We have a good picture of Hugh and Effie later in life but very little is known about them. Evidently they had no children together. A search of the 1930 census should confirm this altho Shirley Jean believes, they had two sons. Ted Adams recollection of Aunt Effie - "I went to her house after night time school functions to spend the night as she lived close to my high school." Shirley Jean's recollections: Effie Adams, born Oct 1884, all I remember of her is that she lived in Olympia and I loved her a lot as I remember. She married Hugh Beaton they had two sons, I am sure they are both dead also. Don't know if either one ever married, as I remember them living at home, I especially remember one of them being there, never liked him, he was a strange one.
