Note: We know that a Judith was probably Cyrus's mother from the pension application filed by his wife Sarah. There is no documented proof that the Judith Newman i ndicated by Arthur is the same Judith, nor can we tie her to a specific George as husband. Since Arthur was in posession of a tintype photograph and indi cates that it is Judith Newman, one could assume that when he took possession o f the tin from an older family member, possibly his grand aunt Judith (daughter of Cyrus, granddaughter of Judith) that he was told that the photo was of Judi th Newman (her grandmother). Or perhaps he was told Judith, but no maiden name and he concluded with the other facts below that her maiden name was Newman. Judith who attested for Sarah in the pension application, was 69 in 1878. Art hur has indicated Judith Newman with a specific date of death of 1894 at age 87 . We have this obituary but it does not cite a maiden name but lists late husba nd George. This would be off by 2 years with the Judith listed in Sarah's pens ion application. Also, there is an Isaac Cartwright who lived on the same st reet, Croton Ave. in New Castle, as the Judith in the obituary mentioned above. Judith Newman is cited by maiden name on his death certificate in 1908 at his age of 51. If the Judith in the obituary were his mother, then she would have b een 50 when she bore him. Perhaps he lived on the same street with another Jud ith (the one in the obituary), maiden name unknown who may have been a relative , perhaps a grandmother (maybe her last name was Miles? - a stretch). Then Jud ith Newman, Isaac's mother could have been much younger, but we have no record. Furthermore there is A Judith Cartwright in the 1860 census with many child ren including an Isaac (~ 6 yrs) which does not match with the 1957 birth of th e Isaac above (off by 3 yrs), Richard (~20 yrs) and David (and a few more), but Mary and Cyrus are not listed. It could be the same person in that Cyrus and his sister Mary were married by 1860. This would mean that George and Judith h ad many more children than we have listed here to date. More research is r equired.
