Note: This is an account of the Schaefer family from Wilmer Struebing of Brillion ,Wisconsin, Nov 2000 "August Schaefer and his wife, Maria and their two sons, Carl and Gottlieb, came to this country from Germany and settled on a farm in the town of Rantoul Twp, Calumet,Wisconsin, now owned by Wesley Hedrick, a great -great grandson of August Schaefer, Senior. <<< as close as possible from memory and what I could find out this is about all I know of the August Schaefer , Sr. family and its descendants. I am proud to be a descendant of the Schaefer and Struebing families. All of you can be very happy about your ancestors. I know I am. You would have liked my Dad. He had only a few years of schooling but was a very intelligent man, highly respected by his neighbors. Having stayed at home I got to know more about both families than those of you who left home. Except for my Uncle Bill, I knew all of my Uncles and Aunts and my cousins and I had 28 of them and I loved and respected every one of them. I was happy to meet some relatives I had never seen before in July 2000. I got to know my Grandmother Struebing- I was 15 years old when she died. I knew grandfather Schaefer well as I was 8 years old when he died. I loved both of them. They were wonderful people who suffered a lot of hard work.>> Wilmer Struebing, Nov 2000 - notes sent to Arlene and Charles Schaefer after the " Schaefer Reunion" in Potter,Wisconsin, summer 2000.
