Note: 50th anniversary celebration of Joseph and Ida Oliver, The Long Prairie Leader, December 6, 1934: "OLIVERS OBSERVE 50th ANNIVERSARY - Well Known Leslie Couple Observe Golden Wedding Anniversary Date Friday Afternoon - Have Lived in This County During Their Entire Married Life - Married Here 50 Years Ago - Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Oliver, who reside in Leslie township, near Clotho, Friday afternoon observed their 50th wedding anniversary. A 1 o'clock cafeteria style dinner was served, a feature of the meal being a wedding cake in the shape of a bell. Those present at the dinner included Mr. and Mrs. E.B. Halsted, of Deer River; Mr. and Mrs. Edelbert Hallsted, of Superior; Mr. and Mrs. Merton Hamlin and family, of this village; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Oliver and family, Mr. and Mrs. Percy Morrow and children, Mrs. Ellen Bangert and daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver's observances are unique in that both of them were born and reared in this county which has continued to be their home during 50 years of married life. Mr. Oliver is the son of the late John and Mary Oliver, while Mrs. Oliver, formerly Ida Lake, is the daughter of the late Jefferson and Martha Lake. The Oliver and Lake families lived in the same community and thus the children of two pioneer families became acquainted, later married and are today in turn recognized as pioneers, having spent all their lives in Todd. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver were married in Long Prairie November 30, 1884. They are the parents of eight children, seven of whom are living. They are Mrs. John Tax, of Osakis; Mrs. E.B. Hallsted, of Deer River; Mrs. Merton Hamlin, of Long Prairie; Earl, Arthur, Ed and Mrs. C.P. Morrow, of the Clotho community. A daughter, Eva, passed away several years ago. While all of the children were not able to be present at the anniversary observances, the event was a pleasant one and because bride and groom have lived all their lives in the county, it was an occasion that has occurred but few times in Todd's history."
