Obituary of Hugh Darcy, Sr., The Mazeppa Tribune, Vol. 19, No. 52, page 1, Wednesday, October 28, 1896: "Word was received in this village Monday of the death of Hugh Darcy, Sr., one of the early settlers of Chester township, but who for a score or more of years has been confined to the State asylum at Rochester. His sons, James J. and Hugh, brought the remains of their parent home on Tuesday and today at Bellechester the last rites of church and society will be performed toward the deceased. His was an unfortunate life and death was a welcome caller. Of the family history of the deceased The Tribune knows little, not having been able to get the particulars from the family in time for this weeks issue, but nearly all its readers know that he was the husband of Mrs. Josephine Darcy of Chester and that his family of children consists of James J.; Hugh; Ed; Frank and Josephine. The deceased was also a brother of John Darcy of this village."
