a. Note:   N96791 !Thomas Wallace of Cairnhill, merchant at Glasgow, d. April, 1748. he purchased the lands of Cairnhill early in the 18th century, as successor to his father, the lands, Anderson says, having been in the possession of the Wallaces of Cairnhill, an Ayrshire family for more than two centuries. He m. 1710 Lilias Cunninghame, dau. of William Cunninghame of Craigends, Renfrew, and his wife Chritian Colquohoun of Luss. Her father 'was elected, in 1689, by the freeholders of Renfrew, then Commissioner to the Convention of Estates, where, and in subsequent sessions of Parliament, he was distinguished by his great fidelity and honour." He was lineally descended from Sir Wm. Cunningham the 2s s. of Alexander, 1st Earl of Glencairn, who rec'd the lands of Craignends from his father before the end of the 15th Cent. (For Colquhoun of Luss v. Burke's Peerage) He was one of the Cautioners for his nephew Dr. Michael W. of Va. (see Indenture of Dr. M., 28) He had i. William. ii. John. iii. Hugh. iv. Thomas. v. Alexander. vi. James. vii. MIchael, b. 1720; grad., M. D., Glasgow Univ., and left Scotland at an early day. He was pro. Dr. Michael Wallace of Marylane. (v. Ann Wallace's letter, under 26) viii. Robert. ix. Christian, d. s. x. Margaret, m. John Nelson, Glasgow, mcht., descended from John N. of Corsack, who suffered after Rullion's Green in 1665. He left 4 daus. xi. Magdalene, m. 1747, Arthur Connell, Provost of Glasgow. He was of the firm of Somerville, Connell & Co., afterwards Stirling, Gordon & Co. of G. He had David, m. Isabella, dau. of James Alston, and had Anne, m. S. D. Sterling of Glenbervie from whom much of this data was received. James m. Marian Finlay. Sir John, m. Margaret, dau of Sir Islay Campbell (supra), procurator of the Kirk of Scoltand. Alexander, Frances, and Robert W. are names as dec'd in mar. contract of their sister Magdalene and Arthur Connell, 1747.
