Horace Edwin Hayden, Virginia Genealogies, A Genealogy of the Glassell Family of Scotland and Virginia, Wilkes-Barre, PA, 1891, Wallace Family p. 689. !Dr. Michael Wallace, son of William Wallace, of Galrigs, Scotland, merchant, who was of the same fammily as Sir William Wallace, the heroic defender of Scottish independence, was born at Galrigs, May 11, 1719, learned medicine and surgery as an apprentice to Dr. Gustavius Brown, of Maryland, settled at Fredericksbury, in Virginia, before 1747, had a very large practice and died in January, 1767. He married Elizabeth Brown, daughter of Dr. Gustavius Brown. Virginia Biography, pg 351. !William Wallace, Merchant, of Galrigs, b. ; d. before 1734, when his son Michael was indentured to Dr. Gustavus Brown. He was a Commisssioner on supply for the Co. of Ayr, 1720. By 1725 he or his heirs had sold Galrigs to Captain Nugent. The name of his wife is unknown. Crawford's "His. of Renfrewshire, " 1710 and 1818, record him as having 'left no male issue.' The indenture of his son Michael, under 28, definitely settles that question.
