a. Note:   NI0001 Was born 4:00am. At this time Simeon Stanley (as it appears on Thurman's birth certificate) and Zora lived at 4615 Verdun St. in Dallas. Simeon was a Minister and Farmer. Died Friday the 27th, was buried on Sunday at Haven of Memories Cemetery in Canton, Texas. From a certificate of the Bureau of Navigation-Navy Department (now Bureau of Naval Personnel), dated April 27, 1944 in Washington D C, we learn that Thurman David Tharp, Service No. 356 99 93, enrolled in Class V-6, U S Naval Reserve, November 27, 1942, as an apprentice seaman, at Navy Recruiting Station, Dallas, Texas. He reported for active duty November 1942 at naval Training Center, San Diego, California. He was Discharged from the U S Naval Reserve January 28, 1943, as apprentice seaman, from Naval Training Center, San Diego, California, with a Special Order Discharge, under honorable conditions, by reason of unsuitability due to a leg injury on a tractor when he was younger. He was discharged with a Conduct 4.0 which is the highest that can be awarded. He was 5' 7" and weighed 122 lbs. After returning to Dallas, he joined the Merchant Marines. Had he lived, he would have been the grandfather of twins, Casey and Brian.
