a. Note:   N1039 The connection between Jesse Thatcher and who I believe are his parents, Joseph Thatcher and Rachel Van Campen, is speculative. There is no death record for Jesse, nor any listing anywhere pertaining to his birth. I am guessing as to his origins using 5 clues: 1. His last name 2. Location (Hunterdon County) 3. The following bastardy case record, known as MR 4404: 1783 Joseph son of Samuel Thatcher of Amwell Twp., yeoman did not consent to marry Rachel Vancamper daughter of John. Delivered a child 23 Jan 1783 by said Joseph. He posted a bond to pay the cost and charges. 4. The closeness of the birth year, taken from Jesse’s headstone by Hiram Deats of the Hunterdon County Historical Society. 5. The name of Jesse and Elizabeth Nitzer Thatcher’s first born, who died in childhood, John Van Campen Thatcher. John could have been named after his grandfather. His “lowly birth” would explain his failure to show up on any wills of the period. is NOT responsible for the content of the GEDCOMs uploaded through the WorldConnect Program.
