a. Note:   N1 On January 1st, 1884, Henry Graves purchased the Northeast 1/4, of Section 1, Township 12, Range 10 of Wabaunsee County, Kansas from John R. Mulvane for 2000. This property is located approximately 2 miles west of McFarland, Kansas on the bordering both sides of Mill Creek. (Wabaunsee County, Registrar of Deed, Book S, page 513)

  Mr. Henry Graves (Dec'd)
  Was born in Prussia, Germany, July 9, 1844. Came to America in April, 1865, and to Kansas in 1876. On November 9, 1870, was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Grafar [sic], eight children being born to this union: Lizzie, Katie, Harry, Emma, William, May [sic], Dora, and Lena. On July 23, 1900, Mr. Graves died at his home, near McFarland. He owned 320 acres of land and by industry and economy had accumulated a handsome competency for a worthy family who were left to mourn the loss of a kind husband and father.

  At his home near McFarland on Monday, July 23, 1900, of acute larangitis [sic] Mr. Henry Graves, aged 56 years and 14 days.
  Deceased had about recovered when exposure brought on a relapse that defied the best medical skill and the kindest of attention from friends and the members of his family.
  In the death of Mr. Graves, the family is bereft of a kind husband and father -- one who was ever mindful of the interests of those about whom his best thoughts were centered. He was a man whose charitable acts and good deeds were the index of a kind heart and his religion always prompted him to do unto others as he would have the do unto him. The funeral at the Catholic church conducted by Rev. father Kamp was largely attended after which a large concourse of friends and neighbors followed the remains to their last resting place in the Catholic cemetery.
  The entire community extends the hand of sympathy to those who mourn in their hour of trial and affliction.

  Henry Graves, one of the oldest residents of this county who has a fine farm near McFarland, died at his home at six o'clock Monday morning, after only a short illness.
  He was about 60 years old and had been a resident of this county for nearly twenty years. He leaves a sorrowing wife and several grown sons and daughters to mourn his death.
  His funeral occurred Wednesday at 12 o'clock at the Catholic church and was largely attended. His bereaved family have the sympathy of all.
