a. Note:   n Detroit, where he worked as account executive from 1953 until his 1969 retirement as management supervisor for J. Walter Thompson's Ford Truck account. He graduated from St. Joseph's Preparatory School in Kirkwood, MO in 1924. He earned a bachelor's degree from Loyola University in 1928 and went immediately into advertising after graduation. He met Althea Angela Jacobs through her brother, a college friend. During his early career, Mr. Carpenter worked at Charles Daniel Frey Agency and Hayes MacFarland Aveyard Co. before joining J. Walter Thompson's Chicago office in 1944. He then worked out of offices in Cincinatti where he also served on the governing board of the American Association of Advertising Agencies, and later in Kansas City, MO before re-locating to Detroit.
