Notes
a. Note:   Birth date is contradictory among various records: Death certificate indicates he was 58 yrs. of age at his death in 1918, thus 1859/60. 1870 U.S. Census record[9th ward, Chicago; family #1785] shows Thomas Mackey residing with a John Mackey; Thomas' occupation given as "blacksmith," aged 22 yrs, thus a birthyear of 1847/48. This is probably our Thomas Mackey as city directories indicate he was employed as a blacksmith during this time. 1900 U.S. Census record [E.D. 611, Sheet 1, Line 73] indicates his date of birth to be April 1850 The best record source is the Proof of Heirship paper and witness testament given by Bartholomew Mackey, Thomas' brother that indicates Thomas was born between Bartholomew and Mary, and that Thomas was "probably 2 1/2 years younger" than himself. Bartholomew however, thought he himself was born in November 1842, and the Rosbercon parish register actually indicates Nov., 1840. Thus we derive a birth year for Thomas Mackey as being c. 1843
