Don Hugo Adams and I are 2nd cousins, once removed. In Folder 8, there is a manuscript written by John Hugo Adams Jr., "Some Outline of Family Adams," 1979. The portion about John Adams are below. "John Adams "John has not yet been traced and identified, but is reported to have lived in Wurtemburg, Conn., between 1765 and 1770. Such a town never existed in Connecticut, but there are reports of John Adamses in both Waterbury and Canterbury to be researched. There is also oral tradition that John was a descendant of a 'blacksheep' branch of President John's family." John Adams Jr. (1792-1860) "John Jr. was born 1/17/1792 in Burtemburg (?). He went to Stafford Township, Genesee County, N.Y. and cleared the forest for three farms. He built a big log house from his own timber cut on his own saw mill, and shingled it with his hand-shaved shingles. His son Liberty was born there in 1821. The 1850 Census reports his assets then at $10,000, a considerable sum. He married Bathsheba Pollock of Delaware 5/19/1816, and by her had five children: Delight, born about 1891; Liberty, 1821; Mary, 1824; Gracy, who died in 1831 at age about four; and Grace, born 1832. After his death, he was buried in the family plot in Tyler Cemetery at Stafford. His tombstone gives his date of death as 3/31/1860." __________________
