Continued: May 6, 2013 Barbara Betsey (COY)(YARRINGTON)ADAMS or yet another Betsey YARRINGTON? - Linda Landmarks of Orleans County, New York (for Carlton, NY) Page 633 http://search.ancestry.com/Browse/BookView.aspx?dbid=16085&iid=dvm_LocHist004028-00425-1 --------------------- [email protected] Mar 2 (4 days ago) I am a YARRINGTON researcher who is interested in Betsey (YARINGTON) ADAMS who was born 1810-1 and died 1878 in Genesee Co., NY. Have you seen "A Twentieth Century History of Berrien County Michigan" in which the biography for their son Horace J. ADAMS gives his parent's names as Horace ADAMS, Sr. and Betsy COY? Could Bets(e)y's maiden name really be COY and her first husband's surname was YARINGTON? Linda _________ Hi Linda, Thank you so much for writing. I gather you saw my blog? If not, you might want to take a peak at it, the link is below. Boy the Yarrington name is hard to research. I don't have anything I can share with you. Yes, I saw the Berrien Co., Michigan book. I honestly don't know if Betsey was married before, but what you wrote is what I think. And, some people said her last name was Cox! What can you share about the Yarrington family? Where were they living, were they in Genesee County? I'm hoping you can shed some light on this line. Again, thanks for writing. Barbara ------------- Barb I thought it might be a fun project to sift and sort NY YARRINGTON families when I came across Betsey (YARINGTON) ADAMS. As you know, Horace J. ADAMS' biography states that his mother Betsy COY was twice married and by her first marriage had one child. This brings me to James YARRINGTON whose biography at www.napacountygenealogy.com/Biograpy/YarringtonJames.htm states he was born 16 Nov. 1830 in Genesee Co., NY. He may be the same as the James YARINGTON age 19 enumerated in the 1850 NY/Orleans Co./Kendall census household of Stephen and Clarissa (COY) "INKS" [JENKS]. Clarissa's father David COY (age 91!) is also a member of this household. Interestingly, James YARINGTON age 39 (the one in the above mentioned biography) is living in Berrien Co., MI in the 1870 census where Betsy's ADAMS children Horace J., George W., and Emily A. had also settled. Interesting, no? As you know, there are no YARRINGTON families listed in the 1830 census index for Genesee Co., NY. I am waiting for James' obituary. What are the chances it will name his parents?! Linda _____________ Barbara Poole <[email protected]> Mar 4 to lindag-n Hi Linda, Thanks for your information, however the link below didn't work, darn! However I found a bit on my own, maybe you know this, maybe not. (I also found the 1850, 60, 70 censuses. This is from FindAGrave: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=yarington&GSfn=james&GSbyrel=all&GSdyrel=all&GSob=n&GRid=31814604&df=all& Birth: Nov. 6, 1830 New York, USA Death: Nov. 10, 1915 Oroville Butte County California, USA Chico Daily Enterprise, Wednesday evening, November 10, 1915: "James Yarrington Dies. James Yarrington [sic], a former resident of Dayton, died in Oroville today. He was about 60 years of age. The funeral will be held in Chico Friday, and interment will be made at Dayton. Chico Daily Enterprise, Thursday evening, November 11, 1915: "James Yerington Buried. Smith of Las Plumas, yesterday, will be held from the Dayton church tomorrow morning at 10:30 o'clock. Rev. Urquhart, of the Seventh Day Adventist church will officiate and interment will be made in the Dayton cemetery. Deceased was 85 years of age and a native of New York. He was well known in Chico." Chico Daily Enterprise, Friday evening, November 12, 1915: "James Yerington Buried. The funeral of James Yerington [sic], Dayton pioneer, was held from the Dayton church this morning at 10:30 o'clock. Burial was made in the Dayton cemetery. Deceased had been a resident of Chico, Paradise, and Dayton for forty years and was well known." (*) Note different spellings of surname in the various obituary articles, Ed He should be in a 1880 and 1900 census, Need to dig further. Barb ------------- [email protected] Mar 4 (2 days ago) to me I see that. This is fairly recent because I just input James into my genealogy database last month. I recycled the printout after abstracting the information. Maybe you could try google books? Not a lot of details about his life in (three!) obituaries. I haven't decided if I want to spend $16 for a death certificate copy if the obituaries are indicative of the lack of information provided. You will find James as "J" YARINGTON in Napa Co., CA in 1880 and in Butte Co., CA in 1900. I have not been able to locate him in the 1910 census index. Please let me know if you have any better luck. I've had no luck finding a marriage record either. Also, the 1875 NY census gives Betsey ADAMS' POB as Chenango Co., NY. Probably not Cyrus' daughter then? There were a number of COY families listed in Chenango County in the 1830 census. Are any of them David COY's sons? Linda
