Note: George Rhicard descends from one of John David Reichert's children. Copied from the Stanbridge 1890-1990 book (Typed by Dianne Rhicard and sent to me.) The Rhicard (Reichert) Family written by Flora J. Primmerman Rhicard The name Reichert is of German origin. = One of their sons, Samuel Fargo (Rhicard) 1823-1914 married Jerusha Hitchcock 1835-1925. Jerusha was the daughter of the Rev. Luke Hitchcock and his wife, Esther Corey. Jerusha, after the death of her mother in 1842, went to Pigeon Hill to live with her grandparents, the Rev. Barnabas Hitchcock and his wife, Jane McKinney. After their marriage in 1851, Samuel and Jerusha lived on part of Joseph's farm until 1859 when they sold and moved to Stanbridge East. There they operated a hotel at #1 Maple Street. At that time they had two children, Ella born 1852 and Clarence born 1859. Ella married Lyman Palmer and their daughter, Mary (May) married Ari Wescott. Clarence died February 6, 1862 and on February 19 a daughter Ermine (Min), was born. (John and I have one of her oil paintings) She married Frank Borden and they had one son, Wilbur. On October 1, 1863, Jerusha and Samuel bought 34 -1/2 acres and built the present house at 55 River Street. Their last child, Percival (Percy) was born there in 1867. Samuel now worked as a butcher and a drover, driving cattle and sheep to Montreal and turkeys to Frelighsburg. On his trips to Montreal he used a horse and buggy with one or two men to help. He was paid mostly in coins and brought them home under the buggy seat in an oyster pail. Samuel died peacefully at his home on River Street at the age 91.
