"In June 1693 Hepzibah (Buell) Wells, with three daughters is alleged to have been knocked on the head in an Indian raid but she and one daughter survived, though scalped. Now as to the date of Hepzibah's death, Albert Welles says it occurred in March 1704; Stiles has 29 Feb. 1704, which, if right, would have to be 29 Feb. 1703/04. Mrs. Parsons agrees with Stiles and says that Hepzibah was captured by the Indians and was taken captive, dying on the journey to Canada. The late Dr. Robert R. Buell, however, informed me that Hepzibah died in 1734, having survived her second husband."
