a. Note:   story%20Library Per David Rumery: "West Leroy Cemetery is located on the old Kelsey farm, Section seven, Leroy Township. It is reached by turning left at the end of Sonoma Road, and following straight through to within a half mile of the Kalamazoo County Line, - about twelve miles from Battle Creek, and taking M 78 South and turning on Sonoma Road. It is an old cemetery and there are many burials between 1830 and 1900. It occupies about three acres of land and has Township supervision." From: History of Calhoun County, Michigan, 1877. Pgs 166-169. The names of Daniel Lay, Anna Lay, D.W. Lay, D.E. Lay, and Charles N. Farmer are mentioned. "A native citizen of Connecticut, came to New York as a young man, where he married Anna Brown, settled in Chenango County, later to Steuben County, and then to Niagara County. In 1835 he moved to Michigan and settled in Kalamazoo County, and a few years later moved to Calhoun County and died there at age 77. His wife survived him a few years dying at 81." _________________ Terrance Kott of to me Apr 18, 2010 Barbara, My name is Terry Kott and I live in Kalamazoo, Michigan. In the course of my own family research I was searching through old books at my grandfather's farm outside of Fulton, Michigan and came across an old ledger that I believe belonged to Stephen Eldred of Climax, Michigan. It covers the years 1837 to 1850+. In it are entries for a couple of families in your genealogy, KELSEY and SCRAMBLING. 1) George Scrambling for the years-1837, 1838, 1840, 1841 2) Silas Kelsey-1838, 1839 3) Timothy Kelsey-1838, 1839 4) George Schrambling-1840, 1842 5) David Scrambling-1841, 1842, 1843, 1844 6) George Schramling-1844, 1845, 1846 -- The entries are very interesting to look at and see what transactions, what life was like back then. I thought that you would like copies of each page for each one of your family members. It has a page for Debt (What the person owed), and a page for Credit (What the person was owed). For example: Silas Kelsey has an entry for March 9, 1838---to one cow + calf ----------$25.00 -- Just let me know and I will try scan and send them to you, or I can color copy them and send them to you by mail. Terry Kott Kalamazoo, Michigan 269-381-1255 before 10pm Eastern please Terry scanned all of them and I wrote about this in my blog. NOTE: I was able to place Alexander Farmer and Daniel Lay. Not able to place Joseph Lay (he sent me a scanned image). Not sure about David or George Scrambling. Silas and Timothy Kelsey are brothers and they have been accounted for.)
