Note: Francis (Frank) A. Farmer, Jr., died March 9, 2011. Funeral Service will be held Monday, March 21, 2011 at 9 a.m. at Mission Chapel Mausoleum. Military honors will be held. Frank was born in 1918 near Bluff City, KS. He was an only child to Francis A. and Johnette Marie Farmer. In 1927 he moved with his parents to Wichita where he completed the first six years of Wichita public schooling at Lowell grade school followed by three years at Roosevelt Intermediate. He then graduated from North High School in 1936. He entered Wichita University in 1936 and graduated in 1940 after being married to Olive Lea Martin in 1939. They enjoyed a beautiful marriage which lasted 54 years until Lea’s death by cancer. He was employed by Santa Fe Trailways in 1940 and called to duty with the U.S. Air Force in 1941. He returned to Wichita in 1945 as an accountant with Santa Fe Skyways. In 1951 he was recalled to duty with the Air Force and served as a commissioned regular officer until his retirement in 1974. Frank and Lea enjoyed participation in the Retiree Activities Association of America at McConnell AFB and as members of Woodland United Methodist Church. Frank is survived by his son, Frank; his daughter-in-law, Irene; grandchildren, John and Karen; and great grandchildren, Rachel, Alicia and Orren.
