Notes
a. Note:   st Settlers of Guilford, Connecticut, 1639, (Baltimore, MD : Gateway Press, 1980). Pgs. 75-76. "In 1860, at the age of nineteen, he was still residing in McLean with his parents. The Civil War broke out, and on 22 November 1861, he enlisted in Company "C" Seventy-sixth Regiment, New York Volunteer Infantry. He gave a brave, faithful and arduous service of three years and four months in the Army of the Potomac. Upon returning home from the war, Mr. Stone became interested in the opportunities offered by the westward expansion, and he too decided to move west. On 17 January 1869, at Hart, Michigan, he was married to Miss Permelia Scramlin by the Rev. Byron L. Pratt. Thomas J. Ginn and Safflin J. Main were present for this occasion. Permelia was the daughter of John and Mary Scramlin, both of whom were of Pennsylvania Dutch extraction." "In the spring of 1872, the family went further westward" "The family then purchased approximately twenty acres on the west side of Valley Springs with Beaver Creek running about through the center of it. They moved to this place in 1891." Edward S. Stone and his wife both died there and are interred in the Valley Springs Cemetery. Note: I had Permelia's parents as Henry William & Mary Scramlin, article states her father was John.
