Cecil help build his brother's Phil or "OC" as he was known resort called Drift Wood Lodge on east side of Balsam Lake. Located at 44 degrees 37' 35.78" N, 78 degrees 48' 23.45" W. Cecil help his brother CO run his lodge as maintenance man etc. His fathers boat “Miss Althea... 1921 His father Bill built a steam boat with help of son Royal (Roy) at their home in Coboconk. Named the boat "Miss Althea" after his wife Ada Althea Routley. Brought the lumber to build it from Sam Bryant of Norland, Ontario. It was built in the woodshed 24ft. long, 7 feet wide. They took out the end of shed to get it out, and rolled it on wooden rollers to the river. He took the train to Toronto to buy the a steam boiler, engine & fittings for it. Then had it shipped to Coboconk. It was driven by propeller, steering it with an oar attached to the stein of the boat. Him & his sons use to take it down the Gull River to cut wood for the Lime Stone Chemical Plant in Coboconk & to pull sunken logs up from the bottom of the Gull river. They then sold logs to The Gull River Lumber Company of Coboconk. The boat ended up at Cedar Villa Lodge on the east shore of Balsam Lake, which his son Cecil had built & operated till his death where it just rotted away. Cecil helped his father to cut & haul fire wood to the lime quarry. Help other carpenter's build homes in the area. Early 1920's Phil or CO with the help of his brother's Roy & Cecil built a resort he called "Driftwood Lodge" located off Hwy 35 between Rosedale & Coboconk on the east side of Balsam Lake. Catering to the very rich. Located at 44 degrees 37' 35.78" N, 78 degrees 48' 23.45" W. Sold it in the early 1960's. He built a home out by Hwy 35 on Driftwood Rd. 1939 Roy with the helped his brother Cecil build his resort called The Royal Cabin Lodge on the east side of Balsam Lake. He sold it in 1968 & brought a home in Lindsay. Since known as ”The Royal Resort Ltd.”-- “Royal Lodge” , Rosedale. still in operation 2011. Located at 44 degrees 36' 12.98" N, 78 degress 47' 33.06" W 1939-26 June 1947 his older sister Bea built The Chateau Riveras, Coboconk, Ont."Gayest Spot in Town" (when gay meant FUN. Taken off the back of a post card). Located on the south side of the Gull River & up on the hill, over looking the town, on Rock St.. Location: 44 degrees 39' 32.23" N, 78 degrees 47' 45.52" W. 1948 she bought the Oak Manor Lodge, later she renamed it to Moonlite Villa on Balsam Lake. Address was Fenelon Falls, Ontario, so located some wheres between Coboconk & Rosedale on Hwy 35. 1940 Cecil with his brother Roy's help build his resort calling it “Cedar Villa Lodge” on the east side of Balsam Lake, just north of Roy's resort called The Royal Lodge. He sold in the mid 1960's & built a home out by the Hwy 35 on Royal Cedar Rd. Cedar Villa Lodge was located at 44 degrees 36' 12.98" N, 78 degrees 47' 36.45" W Both used the same road off of Hwy 35, now called Royal Cedar Rd. Where very up beat lodges. Only the wealthy could afford to go there. 1944 their sister Monetta & James Outram brought property up on Grace Lake, Wilberforce, Haliburton Co. & built a resort they called Birch Villa Lodge catering to the American Plan as well. They sold in 1989 & brought a home in Lindsay. Located at 45 degrees 03' 38.76" N, 78 degrees 13' 20.43" W All offering the American Plan to the well to do families. (America Plan was one where the guest paid a lump sum for each person (child or adult) in the party for a week or more. It included a room, or sweat, a in dinning room full course breakfast, lunch, snacks during the afternoon, supper & a snack before bed time.) In the mid 60's Cecil sold the lodge & built a home on Cedar Villa Road out by Hwy 35, now called the Royal Cedar Rd. where they lived to a ripe old age. He & his brother Roy built many homes & cottages around Coboconk & Rosedale area. Always had a cigarette hanging out of the side of both of their mouths in the 1950-70's.
