Notes
a. Note:   e loved horses & always owned a dogs & cats. Chester was married twice, He married his first wife while he was in his teens, soon after she went senile & was put in the Belleville Hospital (where in due time she died), soon after he divorced her to marry Clara. 9 July 1947 Married Clara Lloyd whose father worked for the Canada Cement Company & rented one of their many homes in the town of Point Anne. He worked most of his life for The Canada Cement Company, the largest open pit mine in the world on the Bay of Quinte. A couple of job he held was in the Clinker Mill where they broke small bits of lime stone down into a fine power. & manger of the Drying Kiln. Lots of gauges & setting to keep track of at all times. When he got laid off from this job He got one with the Ontario Milk Marketing Board, working in the large cheese warehouse just below the Billeville Hospital, right on the Bay of Quinte. Retired from this job at age 65. Raised in The united Church of Canada, Point Anne Parish Church. He belonged to the Orange-man's Organization, and was very active in it. In most of their parades he was all dressed up and rode a horse at the front of it. In his early years he was also a scrapper or fighter. He loved to fight as a sport up till he married Clara. He was a very well built man of about 6 foot, brown hair & eyes. He also loved to drive his cars, which over the years he owned many of very fast. During the 2nd World War he was in the Canadian Reserves, he never was called to service, even though he was ready to fight for Canada as his father had in World War One. In 1953 they where baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon). Very strong member, held many positions in the church as well as Branch President. They brought a very large double home on Point Anne Road, the last house near the gates of the plant. They always had a very large garden behind the house. Up till 1960 they did not have a inside bathroom. Out behind the garage was a 2 seater Outhouse. 1958 Chester & Clara Sheppard moved their family to Picton, Ontario, Canada for a few years while Chester worked over there & then back to their home in Point Anne. For most of his life he looked after the water pump house for the plant & later the village. The water came right out of the Bay of Quinte. In the early 1970's when they shut down the plant, the water works was leased to the Point Anne Town Water Commission, which Chester was head of. In the early 1980's the government gave them the money to build a new water purifying plant off of the company land. Every night after work Chester would walk the 1/4 mile to the small building that housed the plant & pumps on the bay to check on it & make any adjustments etc to the system as needed. At least once a week (usually Saturday morning) he would back flush the system to get rid of all the junk from the bay that would accumulate in it. He did this right up till they moved to Belleville. Most evenings it took him about an hour, unless one of the pumps quit & had to be replaced. He always kept spare pumps on site. Chester was very mechanical mined, and like fixing things. He looked after his own cars & those of the towns people for many years. He had taken a car mechanic coarse in Belleville in the early 50's. They sold the home in 1993 & moved into an apartment which their daughter Chris & her husband Wayne had built for them on the back side of their home. SOURCE: Della Sheppard-Outram 13012 CR 503 Tory Hill, Ontario, Canada K0L 2Y0 (705) 448-2190 1999 His granddaughter Racheal Outram wrote this poem & Bro. Steven Murray read it during service: -For My Grandpa- Comforted in arms of wisdom, Gained only from years of experience. Guided by hands with worn finger tips, From molding life damp clay. I look to you for greater knowledge, Your Love will light my way. Forever and for always, My grandpa tall and strong. You love me unconditionally, Your warm embrace comforting, My grandpa you'll always be. From a very young age, You taught me to choose the way of kindness. You showed me nature in all its power, As the waves crashed on the bay. Or how to eat ice cream through small bites, Or fishing before day. Forever and always, My grandpa tall and strong, You love me unconditionally, Your warm embrace comforting, My grandpa you'll always be. And now I'm all grown up, Or at least I would like to think. You've taught me so much about living right, Through your example I hold so dear. Grandpa when I pass on to the next life, I want you to be the one to come and hold my hand, And take me to my Father in heaven. Forever and always, My grandpa gentle and kind, I love you more than words can say, I cherish you so dearly and, My grandpa youll always be.
