Note:   Notes for Walter Charles (Pat) Outram 1908-1998 SOURCE: Page out of the Peterborough OUTRAM Family Bible with all the births, marriages entries are written in Helen Pugh-Outram's hand writing including herself & husband William (Billy). She didn't enter the baby girl that died at birth on 18 Apr 1903. 4th. Son of William James & Helen Pugh Outram Uncle Alfred Westcott left all of his Grand- Nephews & Nieces Outram of the Peterborough family $100.00 each from the balance of his stocks. SOURCE: Off Notes written by Helen Pugh-Outram of Peterborough before 1950 His Stature was 5 foot 2 inches medium build, brown eyes & hair & very talkative, non smoker, non drinker of alcohol. He was a member of the Cambridge United Church in Lindsay, Ontario. 1st. Marriage: 1936 to Winifred Turner who was a teacher. At that time it was looked down a pond if a teacher was married so they eloped & got married in Ponty Pool, Durham Co., Ontario. Children: 2 boys, William James (Jim) 1937-, & William James (Bill) 1942-, 2nd. Marriage: 1973 to Olive Marie Downey who he had meet while working in Brighton, Ont. in his early yrs. In the Cambridge United Church, Lindsay, Ontario. Walter was a member of a club called the Mason's (a protestant organization verses a Roman Catholic organization name the Knights of Columbus both men only & very secret) He was given his 50 year pin evening of 3rd. Mar 1998. Education & work History... Belonged to the Peterborough Cadets Was a Captain in the Canadian Reserves while in Cobourg, Ont. and was trained in Patawawa, Ont. Granulated from The Guelph Agriculture College, Guelph, Ontario. Now known as Guelph University. He put himself through college by working on farms as a field labour After graduation he went to work for The Imperial Oil Company of Canada in Port Hope, Ontario as a driver & distributor of farm fuels for them. 1946 Moved to Lindsay and started a fuel company "W. C. Outram & Son's Ltd." a farm dealer for the Imperial Oil Company served all of Victoria Co. & most of Haliburton Co. In this area he was known as either Walter or Pat Outram. In 1962 he wanted his son's to become active in the business, and Imperial Oil Company said NO. Early in March of that year he made arrangements to switch from being an Imperial Oil Company agent to that of a Sunoco Oil Company agent. The change happened over one weekend, Friday his trucks had Imperial Oil Products on them, and by Monday he was hauling Sunoco Oil Company's Products. And the company name had changed to "Outram's Fuels" of Lindsey. 1985 Sold company to one of his drivers. Now called “Outram Fuels Sunoco Petroleum Products” on hwy 35S. Home: He always wanted to be a farmer so brought a small home & 12 acres located on the north side of the Old Oakville Road with a township road on the West side & Highway #7 on the North side of property & just west of Lindsay on the at top of hill. Pets: Always owned a Boarder Collie (small hairy dog used to heard sheep). Own some registered riding hoses over the years, the last being Linda & Lion. Lion he uses to drive. Liked to raising black faced sheep, and gardening. (Known for his love of flowers). Walter was Very Active in the farming community and agricultural fairs in & around the Lindsay area. He was one of the founding member’s of Lindsay Horseman's Association, of Lindsay. And is still going today 1998. One of the founding members of The Bear Lake Hunt Club, at the top end of Bear Lake, Anstruther's Township, Peterborough County just off highway 28. He loved to walk in the bush by himself & hunt birds, & deer. A much respected man in Lindsay & area. Sickness... 1989 got Alzheimer’s moved into Victoria Manor, Lindsay 1990.
