Notes
a. Note:   Notes for Winifred Turner 1913 -1971 Work: Winifred was a school teacher. Marriage: 1936 to Walter Charles Outram. At that time it was looked down upon if a lady teacher was married so they eloped & got married in Ponty Pool, Durham Co., Ontario. Children: 2 boys, William James (Jim) 1937-, & William James (Bill) 1942-, Copy of a hand written letter sent to Winifred Turner-Outram living in Lindsay, Ontario from Helen Louise (Ella) Outram-Emmerson (Walter’s eldest sister) living in Cobourg, Ontario at the time and writing about a book by L. J. Trotter on the life of Sir James Napier OUTRAM "Bayard of India" Mon. 28th 1969 Dear Winifred- Finally I got "the book" from our library. It is on loan to me by my branch from "Toronto Public Libraries" down town. I can have it for only two weeks. I asked if it could be purchased for out of town libraries, she didn't know but had doubts. I've read it & copied the high lights for you. Only hope that you decipher it, my fingers still get stiff but do think that they're improving. If you decide that it is worth while & want to type it out, please do it in duplicate. I have wished that I could have typed it for you. I enjoyed some of it but the accounts of the battles & misunderstandings in army life was some what tiring. He speaks of dishonest leaders & politics, so I guess the world has always had these. As I read, I liked the man, he seems to have been straight forward, honest, a Christian & kind hearted. Now I'd like to know where the Outram's of the Isle of Wight came from? Excuse the paper; these were the only large size sheets I had. I've been in the house the last few days with a head cold. Do hope it does not develop into flu. The couple down stairs have had a bout. The families are well but they had it a while ago. Oh I meant to say that this book is marked 1933, the date Toronto Libraries received it. It was printed by William Blackwood & Sons, England. Frances will give you the address of a dealer in England who sends her his catalog from time to time of old books. You may get a copy there, this means but actually I wouldn't want to pay much for it because I've really given you the sum & substance. It's a book that you wouldn't read for pleasure. Hope all are well. It has been a real winter but the Sun is stronger & the days a little longer. Love to all Ella SOURCE: From the writings of Winifred Turner OUTRAM, Lindsay, Ontario.
