Dear Emma:- Thank you so much for your lovely letter of Oct 21st -I was very pleased to hear from you. I'm terribly sorry I've been so long in writing to you – but this has really been a rough year for me healthwise and otherwise, consequently my correspondence has been sadly neglected. Mother (Ida Helen Outram-Ashwood) passed away at died at 9:40 a.m. October 10. She had not been at all well ever since the early spring and was in bed most of the time. She became very ill about Sept 1st. The Dr. said her chest was very congested and her heart was bad-- so he prescribed anti-bionics and digitalis. Her condition worsened and when I called him again, he tried to get her into hospital, but was unable to get a bed till Sept 16th. She didn't want to be left alone, so while she was there – I stayed with her straight through the visiting hours every day, from before 12 noon till after 8:30pm. Did you know she had her 100th birthday May 12, this year, She was very bright and alert mentally right to the end. I went over to Aunt Laura's (Outram-Rutter) Sunday and had supper with her and (her son ) Beryl (Rutter). Poor Aunt Laura is feeling Mother's death keenly, she is the last remaining one of her family now. She is looking vary frail and her eyesight is very bad. I was so sorry to hear of your brother Ira's death and hope he didn't suffer long after his stroke. Speaking about family trees – I'm now reading a book called “The Bayard of India” by Captain L. J. Trotter – a biography of our ancestor, Sir James Outram. It is most interesting. I just wish Mother could have read it – she would have loved it. Beryl got it from the public library and loaned it to me. ------------------------------------------------- Much Love, Reta Obituary from Vancouver News Paper 11 Oct 1968 “ASHWOOD”--- Passed away October 10, 1968, Ida Helen, widow of David J.
