a. Note:   ivil War he used to get in a skiff to pull out the packet with the newspaper. He later raised corn and soy beans along the Ohio River; sometimes their land would get flooded, but not the house. He was more interested in timber than in farming. In 1880 Lafayett was unmarried and farmed in Union Township, Perry co., IN (page 34) with his Mother Mary Elder and 2 laborers. In 1900 he farmed in Union Township, Perry Co. with his wife Meary L. and children Edith L., Nancy A., Clara T., Thomas L., and Charles A., and a servant Austin Jerrett, born Mar 1875 in KY; Thomas and Meary were listed as married 18 years with 8 children and 5 of them living. On 27 June 1882 they were married by Father Boniface of St. Meinrad. The sponsors were William Salbrig (brother of the bride), Anna Dashbauck (cousin of the bride), August Elder (brother of the groom), and Threasa Salbrig (sister of the bride).
