Notes
a. Note:   d was the father of Jane Perry, wife of his brother John. Walter worked as an express and freight clerk for thirty-five years for the Black River Railroad at the Boonville railway depot with his brother, JH. In 1900 he was a telegraph operater living on West Street, Boonville (page 77) with his wife Emma and two sons. In 1910 Walter Doag was a railroad office clerk residing at 66 Post Street, Booneville with his wife Emma and son Byron. The Lowville herald and Lewis County Democrat., November 28, 1912, Page 5 From Boonville comes the news that for the second time within the month death has taken one of its members - this time Walter Doig, the well known and popular chief clerk at the New York Central railroad station there. Less than a month ago the message came carrying the news of the death of another brother, Leonard Doig, at Ashmont, Mass., and as Walter had been in such a critical condition for some time, it was impossible to tell him of the other death, and he died not knowing that he was following so closely his brother’s demise. It was 11 o’clock last Thursday morning that death ended the sufferings of which Mr. Doig had been the victim for about two years. Last winter he was given a three months’ leave of absence and spent the time in California and when he returned it seemed for a time that he had improved. But after a short time he had the misfortune to break his arm while at work in the express office and since that time he had gradually failed until Thursday. Walter Doig was born in. Boonville September 6, 1855,.and always resided here, with the exception of a few years that he was in the employ of the Russel & Erwin Manufacturing Company at New Britain, Conn. For 35 years he was assistant agent at the railroad station, in Boonville, and his good nature, splendid business ability and faithfulness made him. a valued employee and his friends among the railroad men along the road will read with regret that he will not be seen at his post again. He was a good citizen, a kind father and husband and a good companion. The railroad was under the management of the old Utica & Black River Company when he first went to work for it and he saw all the changes that time has brought and literally grew up with the road in which he was so much interested. December 13, 1882, he married Miss Emma Hubbard of Constableville, who with two sons, James Howard of Denver Col., and Byron Glen of New York, survive him, and to whom the sympathy of all is extended in their bereavement. One sister, Mrs. Angus C. Davis, of Ashmont, Mass., and four brothers, James of New York, John Howard, of Boonville, Edwin Murray of Denver and Augustus Renouf of New Britain, Conn., also survives. The funeral was held at Trinity Church last Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock, Rev. Francis Curtis Smith officiating.
Note:   In 1880 Walter was a clerk living with David Perry and family in Booneville (page 67); Davi
