a. Note:   ., KS. He came to Ash Rock Township, Rooks Co., KS in 1881 where he helped haul stone to build the Ash Rock Church. After marriage Riley established their first home in a two-room "dug out" a mile and a half north of Kirwin. They moved to a regular house in Kirwin where his daughter Grace Power Wiley moved into in 1934 and still lived there in 1980. They then moved to Stockton, Rooks Co. where he helped build the water plant. They then headed for Missouri, but Elizabeth was afraid to ford the Missouri River so they went to Beatrice, NE instead. There he worked as a laborer. They soon moved to Crete, NE where William farmed for 5 years. Then they moved to Smith Co., KS where they lived in a "haunted" house. They moved back to a farm 7 miles north of Woodston, Rooks Co., KS where in 1895 they erected and lived in a three-room sod house for several years. Later they built a ten-room frame house where they lived the rest of their lives. In 1930 he farmed in Ash Rock Township, Rooks Co. with his wife Lizzie, son Cecil, and daughter-in-law Ruth. William and Elizabeth had another child that died as an infant and was buried in Ash Rock Cemetery, Ashrock Township, Rooks Co., KS
Note:   Riley immigrated with his parents in a covered wagon train and settled in Kirwin, Phillips Co
