Notes
a. Note:   Birth recorded at Chorlton. The marriage certificate to Ada Kirby lists Alexander as 22 years old, the son of William Doig (deceased), mechanical engineer. Children also reported by Ada Kirby: Florence Doig born 1874, Ellen Doig, and Moll Doig (died at age 22 in 1914) married Mr. Bohanna. No children, including Frederick, appear in the 1881 census in England. In 1877 Alexander was in the booking and accounting business. In 1891 Alexander was a basinette manufacturer residing at 64 Broughton Lane, Broughton, Lancashire with his wife Maria K. and a servant Mary Jones (40 Wales). In 1901 he was a fancy goods dealer in Moss Side, Manchester with his wife Maria and mother Sarah Doig. He may be the Alexander born 1857/8 who died in Cardiff, Wales in Apr/June 1931. --------------------------------------------------------- References: -----, 1874 Manchester Trade Directory - William Doig. -----, Marriage Certificate - Alexander Doig. -----, Letter of Lillian Holly Lee (see below) 15 Columbas Close Wallsey, Herseyside L45 8EY Tuesday 16-4-91 Dear Mr. Doig [T. Alan Doig in NY] I am tracing my family on my paternal side, and this may be of some interest to you. During my research I came across this cutting in the BMD in the Wallasey News for the year 1957. This is my research so far! My g. father B. 1855 Alexander Doig, 1877 married Ada Kirby in Chorlton Manchester. My father B. 1877 Frederick Kirby Doig in Chorlton Manchester, married Alice Elizabeth Lowson in Liverpool 1900. I am trying to trace any more children born to Alexander and Ada. Some of the names I have unearthed are Florence Doig B. 1874, Ellen Doig and Moll Bohanna nee Doig who died in 1914 aged 22 years. The Doigs were all in the booking and accounting business. Enclosed the cutting and I would be pleased to hear from you. Yours sincerely Lilian Holly Lee (nee Doig)
