a. Note:   There was a Thomas Patterson enumerated at Clearfield, Butler, Pennsylvania in 1840 with one male and one female, both age 20-29. Unproven. They probably came to the US a bit later than 1840 as their first child was born in early 1846 in PA. This would have been at the beginning of the Irish Potato Famine (ca 1845-1852). Enumerated with the family in 1850 was David Cravin, 23 b PA, occupation not noted. Living adjacent to the family was the couple Robert (b abt 1787, Ireland) and Elizabeth (b abt 1780, Ireland) Ottsson - possible relatives. So, he evidently had divorced his wife Jane by the 1880 census and remarried to Mary unless she was the same person as Jane. Their grave markers are colocated and identical in style and there is no information given at Find A Grave that Thomas had a second wife and no marrage records were found to confirm a second marrage.
