a. Note:   His son Alexander's death record shows that Plummer was born in Jamaica, but Alexander's census records show his father was born in Scotland and his mother in Madeira. There is an immigration record in Canada showing that he arrived there in 1871 and went to Ontario. He may have just been returning from Europe as it appears he had been in Canada for some time by then. From Find A Grave (Canada): Plummer Dewar Birth: 1815 Saint James, Jamaica Death: Nov. 4, 1878 Hamilton, Ontario, Canada Son of Robert Dewar and Elizabeth Barrett Plummer, he was christened on December 28, 1815 in the parish of Saint James. He married Jamaican born Eliza Kemp, daughter of Dr. Alexander Lawrie Pew, and with her had ten children. They are shown on the 1851 Scotland census for Lanarkshire, where Plummer is listed as a merchant. By 1862 they were residing in Hamilton, Ontario which is where Eliza passed away on February 22nd of that year. On June 4, 1863, he took as his second wife Emily Hopton Scoble, (born Jan., 1835, England) having five additional children with her. He passed away at home at the age of 63; the cause of death listed as urinary disease.
