Notes
a. Note:   In the 1860 census of Chesterfield, VA he was living in the household headed by his older brother Edward. Their parents had died earlier in the year - see notes for Edward. He may have been the person enumerated in 1870 as Wathall A. Archer, 24 b VA living in the household of a Poindexter family that also had 3 other persons with different surnames. He and his siblings had evidently scattered after the death of their parents in 1860. His brother Edward was in Chester, Chesterfield Co. VA. From Find A Grave his middle name was Walthall, so this was him. In the 1880 census, if this was him, he was living in a large hotel in Richmond, VA and was one of the hotel clerks. He was shown to have been single, but he was married in 1877. The 1890 census was destroyed in a fire. The 1900 census of Bristol, RI had the family: Name Age Dob Pob Archibald Archer 53 Feb 1847 VA Mellie De Wolf Archer 45 Aug 1854 RI (Nellie) Archie Wm Archer 20 Feb 1880 VA C Henry D Archer 18 Abt 1882 RI James D W Archer 15 Oct 1884 VA Florence J Archer 14 Dec 1885 VA William F Archer 10 Jan 1889 VA Raymond B Archer 8 Aug 1891 RI Fannie B Archer 6 Sep 1883 RI John M Archer 4 Nov 1895 VA James F Dewolf 47 Oct 1852 RI Brother-in-law Mary M Jones 60 Aug 1839 VA Sister Margaret Peters 29 Mar 1871 Ireland Servant Elizabeth Lee 22 Oct 1877 VA Cook Amy Glendon 22 Sep 1877 Ireland Nurse Maid Adeline Glendon 20 Jun 1880 Ireland Nurse In the 1910 census there were two servants enumerated with the family. James D. still lived with his parents and they were in Richmond, NY. In the 1917 edition of the City Directory of New York City there were two entires: Archer, Archibald W mgr Electric Hose & Rubber Co h Short Hills, NJ Archer, Nellie (wid Archibald W) h 9 W91St Somehow the person taking the information got Archie confused with their son James as he was the Mgr of the Electric Hose & Rubber Co., but that was in Chicago. So it is evident that he had died prior to this directory of 1917 in New York as Nellie was widowed. Proven at Find A Grave. Note: in the 1920 census she was living on 91st St in Manhattan - see her notes. From Find a grave - photos of marker provided: Hollywood Cemetery Burial: Hollywood Cemetery Richmond Richmond City Virginia, USA Plot: Section 2, Lot 216
