It is known from the 1850 census (below) that he lived in Lower, Chesterfield County at that time. His age in this census shows 30-39, which may have been true as his exact age is not known, but the 1850 census showed he was 37, so would have been 27 in 1840. Also, this shows he had two males 5-9 which is confirmed in the 1850 census. There were several Archer families living in the area. His family was in the 1850 census: Lower, Chesterfield, VA William A. Archer - 37 (b. c1813) Ann A. Archer - 35 (b. c1815) Edward D. Archer - 16 (b. c1834) Joseph Archer - 14 (b. c1836) Eliza L. Archer - 7 Archibald Archer - 5 James Archer - 3 William Archer - 0 His name is not on the list of slaveholders in the 1850 Slave Schedule portion of the census. Two Archers were on it from Chesterfield County. He and Ann died just prior to the census of 1860 - see the notes for their oldest son Edward.
