  BIOGRAPHY: Against Oblivion: History of Calhoun county Peter Stewart (1798-aft 1880) is listed as being alive in the 1880 Calhoun county census. He was one of six children. Burial in Mars Hill Cemetery. Peter m. Eleanor Mackay Haris (see Mackay, this book). Eleanor (b. 1807), dau. of James and Charlott (Mackay) Harris. On 4/4/1835 Peter Stewart was chosen as the first clerk of Phillippe Church Marion co. On 8/29/1835 Peter was licensed to preach the gospel and at one time was pastor of Phillippi. Peter is known to have been living in Randolph co in 1853. He had a grist mill near Coleman, GA. He later moved to Calhoun co. He is mentioned in the Mars Hill Church records many times, first on 10/4/1856. He was often a moderator and for many years was the pastor. Bur. Mars Hill. Peter and Eleanor had ten children; four daughters are traced here with their very interesting stories.
