Notes
a. Note:   N92 According his daughter, Ida Belle Covert, Luther had a habit of drinking and cursing quite often. His youngest son, Tom, said his father was a farmer most of his life, but at one time he ran a butcher shop in Little Rock, long before he met his mother, Ella. He also said his father had lived at one time on Congo Road, in Saline County, near a cemetery. His father was 62 years old when he was born.
Luther is on the 1910 Arkansas Census as living in Lonoke County, LaFayette Township. He is listed as being a farmer, age 48; his wife was Ella, age 24, who was born in Arkansas, mother of one living child out of two. Ella indicated her parents were born in South Carolina. There were four children living in the household at the time. The 1920 Arkansas Census indicates that Luther and Ella are living in Pulaski County, Eagle TS., with their three youngest children, Raymond, 12, Lily, 9, and Ida, 6. He was still a farmer. Luther and Ella indicated they both could read and write.
