Note: N516 He was a half-brother to John Wesley and Hugh T. Pritchard. Sam also had several half-brothers and sisters by his father's previous marriage. Two were Dan A. Thomas and Mattie Thomas. Sam was living in 1880 in Saline Country with his mother and two half brothers, John W. and Hugh T. Pritchard. At this time his mother was the head of house. Jerusha is listed on the 1880 Arkansas Census as living in Saline Country, Saline Township on June 11, 1880. She listed her occupation as housekeeper and that her two oldest boys, John and Hugh as working on the farm. Sam was three years old. The place of Sam's father's birth is listed as Georgia. According to stories handed down, Sam didn't get along with Howard and moved to southwest Arkansas or moved with a man to Texas, probably between 1888-1891. He may have been living with John Wesley or Hugh Pritchard, his half-brothers who were farming near Prescott, or he may have gone to Texas, its not known for certain. It seems likely that Sam was living at Boughton Township in Nevada County with his mother and his brother, Hugh, when he married in 1895. Sam and Lillie lived with her parents for about one year and had their first child. Sam and Lillie are listed on the 1900 Census as living in Nevada County, Redland Township, June 1, 1900. Sam is 23 years old and Lillie is 24. Their daughter, Clara is listed as 3. Both Sam and Lillie indicate they are able to read and write, and they rent their farm, as Sam indicates he is a farmer. Lillie stated that she has one living child out of two. On this Census, the birthplace of Sam's father and mother is listed as Alabama. Around 1900, Lillie had to have her right wrist and later her arm up to the elbow amputated due to a blood clot. Her children sleeping or lying on her arm so often caused the blood clot. Lillie's father came and got them and they moved back to Texas due to her weak condition. During the time in Texas, Sam and Lillie had two more children. When Pansy was about a year old, they moved back to Arkansas, near Prescott and later moved to Bluff City where Sam had two farms. The 1910 Census, shows that Sam and Lillie are living in Nevada Country, Union Township. The location of their farm is listed as Prescott and Bluff City Roads. This time Sam indicates his father was born in Tennessee, and his mother in Georgia. He says he owns his farm, free of mortgage. He stated he is 33, and has been married for 14 years. Lillie is 34, has two children living out of six born. The children listed in this household were Pansy, age 6, born in Texas and Manfred, age 4, born in Arkansas. About 1916-7, they moved to Chidester and lived there and near there the rest of their lives. The 1920 Census shows that Sam and his family now live in Ouachita County, Red Hill Township, as of February 21, 1920. Sam was 41, according to this Census, he owns his home, is able to read and write, was born in Arkansas, his father was born in Kentucky, and his mother in Georgia. Lillie indicates she is 42, born in Texas, father was born in Alabama, and her mother in Texas. They listed their occupation as farming. There are six children living in their home. Pansy, age 16, Samuel Manfred, age 14, Jewel, age 9, Donnie, age 6, and Daisy, age 6. All this children can read and write. The youngest child was Lloyd, age 2 years, 8 months. of the eleven children born to this union, only six lived past the age of eighteen. Sam and his wife lived the rest of their lives in Ouachita County, he later took up sharping saws in addition to farming. He would go around to the lumber mills and file their saws. He had a find reputation as one of the best around to do this. According to their granddaughter, Louise Stinnett Bussel, she said Sam was a nice man, a real good man. Sam died August 14, 1966 on a Sunday Morning between 6-7 am. They were Methodist. He was living near Camden with his daughter, Jewel, and her husband, Garland, at the time of his death. Lillie and Sam are both buried at Red Hill Methodist Church Cemetery near Chidester, AR.
