Notes
a. Note:   N601 John owned and operated a sawmill in 1900. Lived in Union township (Pulaski Co.) of that year. Was a lumber dealer in 1910, living in Big Rock, township (Pulaski Co.) The Little Rock City Directory of 1910 list John H. Pritchard as President and Treasurer of Pritchard Lumber Company and his wife, Q. Estelle Pritchard as Vice-President. The company and there residence was located at 1210 Wolfe, Little Rock, AR. Their children Dora and Harlie were also at this address in 1910. The Pritchard's also owned a 840-acre ranch in Lake Wood, New Mexico. The 1920 Little Rock City Directory indicates that the business had moved to 2501 West 7th and their residence was at 3821 West 16th. They were living at 808 Battery, in Little Rock, by 1921, renting a house. This house was later destroyed due to a Air Force plane crashing, and causing a number of homes on one block to burn. This happened in the early 60's. During the depression, John and Estelle lost their lumber business. About 1928-99, John and Estelle, along with their daughter, Florence, and her two children moved to Long Beach, California, and stayed with Harley Pritchard. They all stayed together with Harley for a short time. John and Estelle bought a resort hotel in Ardmore, Tennessee, and moved there around 1930-31. They stayed there, until Estelle became ill, returning to Little Rock. John later remarried and returned to Tennessee, but the marriage didn't last long, and he returned to Arkansas, living with his children, Dora and Florence, in Hot Springs, AR. John died, May 16, 1949 in a nursing home in Little Rock, on 19th and Arch. He was buried beside his wife at Roselawn, in the Lakeview section. The following are statements made by Dorothy Hobbs, John's granddaughter, to Joe Herring, June 7, 1994. Her grandfather had one leg that was smaller than the other, which was caused by John breaking his leg when he was a boy, and not having the leg correctly set. He had to wear a raised shoe. At one time he furnished lumber for a bridge to be build across the Arkansas River, and was paid $50,000 in gold. He let his children play with the gold, until he could get the money to the bank. He also build a number of apartment houses in L.R. on 17th and 19th streets, near the Governor's Mansion, and he had arthritis when he died.
