Notes
a. Note:   N41267 In 1919, Francis Xavier (Frank) married Bertha Reidel. Frank's 1917 draft registration in Manhattan shows him age 31, single, working in Greenwich Village as a seaman for the Southern Steamship Co. at Pier 44 on the Hudson River, which was at the foot of Christopher Street, and living in what is now called Tribeca at 272 West Street. Ellis Island records of ship arrivals in New York City, show Frank arriving as: • 3rd Asst. Engineer on the Bellatrix from Cette in 1918, • 3rd Asst. Engineer on the Helen from Santa Cruz, Cuba, in 1919, • 2nd Asst. Engineer on the Texan from Naples, Genoa, and Hamburg in 1920, • 2nd Asst. Engineer on the Hawaiian from Hamburg in 1921, • Junior Engineer on the President Arthur from Bremerhaven in 1923. The 1920 census shows Frank, 33, a marine engineer, and his wife Bertha, 23, born in New York, living in Bayside, Queens. Frank's nephew, William Drueke said Frank had left Grand Rapids as he had had a fight with his father and did not come back until his father died. In the 1914 Grand Rapids directory, Frank was listed as a traveling agent for Drueke-Lynch Co. When his father died in 1926, Frank was living in Brooklyn. A 1931 photo shows Frank and Bertha in Grand Rapids with his brothers Will and Clarence.
