Sales made to Dabney Wright, Brockman Bell, William Bell, Roger Bell, John Bowling, Oswell Murphy, James Robinson, James Daniel ... totaling $2400 Returned 23 May 1820 Orange County Will Book 4, 1801-1814 The Will of Thomas Bell (transcript) I, Thomas Bell of Orange County, Va. being mindful of the uncertainty of the human life and being desirous to dispose of such worldly goods as it hath pleased to God to bless me with, doth make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following which is to say: Item-it is my will and desire that my just debts and funeral expenses be first paid out of my estate. Item-I give unto my daughter Suky Bowling one negro girl named Winney and her increase, one horse, saddle and bridle, and one feather bed and furniture to her and her heirs forever, which said property in now in the possession of her husband John Bowling. Then I have to my daughter Becky Clark, one negro girl named Ester and her increases, one horse, saddle and bridle, one feather bed and furniture to her and her heirs forever, which said property is now in possession of her husband Larkin Clark. Item-I give to my son Roger Bell all the property he has at this time in his possession that he has received from me to him and his heirs forever. Item-I give unto my son Brockman Bell one horse, saddle and bridle which he has in his possession, one feather bed and furniture, and one hundred pounds cash to him and his heirs forever. Item-I give to my son William B. Bell one horse, saddle and bridle which is called his, one feather bed and furniture, one hundred pounds cash and one negro girl named Milley and her increase to him and his heirs forever. Item-I give to my daughter Polly Bell one negro girl named Fanny and her increase, one horse, saddle and bridle worth one hundred pounds and one feather bed and furniture to her and her heirs forever. Item-I give to my daughter Sally Bell one negro girl named Mary, one horse, saddle and bridle worth one hundred dollars and one feather bed, and furniture to her and her heirs forever. Item-It is my will and desire that should either of the negros given my two last mentioned daughters, die before my said daughters shall be reinstated with another negro from my estate of the same value of the one or both so dying. Item-I lend unto my beloved wife, Sally Bell during her natural life or widowhood the balance of my estate not already divided, both real and personal. Item-It is my will and desire that at the death or marriage of my widow that part of my estate lent her, shall be sold and the money arising from the said sale shall be equally divided among all my children to wit: Suky Bowling, Roger, Becky Clark, Brockman Bell, Thomas W. Bell, William B. Bell, Polly Bell, and Sally Bell, to them and their heirs forever. Item-Lastly, I do hereby nominate and appoint my wife Sally Bell, my sons Roger Bell and Brockman Bell executrix and executors to this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all other or former wills, by me made.
