a. Note:   er. Nathan Smith Edwards was son of William Collins Edwards and his wife Elizabeth "Betsy" Bennett. William Collins Edwards was b ca 1783 VA d. ca. 1857 Perry Co. m. Oglethorpe Co. GA 17 Nov 1804 Elizabeth "Betsey" Bennett b ca 1786 in GA (still searching for her father). Children of William C. Edwards & Betsy per 1850 Radfordville, Perry Co., AL census: Michael b ca 1821 AL, Reuben E. b ca 1824 AL. [1850 census and marriage per Janet Ariciu 2006] William Collins Edwards was son of #1 John Edwards, whose ancestry is not presently known. #1 John Edwards may be descended from Thomas Edwards, Sr. who died with a will in 1751 in Lunenburg Co., VA, and was father of Thomas Edwards, Jr. who died 1791 Pittsylvania Co., VA. #1 John moved to GA by 1787, lived in Wilkes Co. on Kettle Cr. and in Oglethorpe Co. on Bigg Cr.; on 1800 census in Warter’s Dist., Oglethorpe Co., with 3 sons and 5 daus. From Oglethorpe Co. moved to Perry Co., AL in 1819-1820. He d. 1834 Perry Co., AL, AM REV service at Warrenton, NC [where there was also Reuben Edwards, Rev. War soldier] ; m. Susannah Collins. dau. of William Collins and Sarah (or Susannah) Butler. In Culpeper Co., VA, Melba found William Collins witnessed the LWT of John Butler in Culpeper Co., VA who named all his children, and there was a Sarah Butler and a Susannah Butler in the will. [Melba is not sure yet which one married William Collins.] Melba has not been able to prove that Susannah Collins Edwards is the dau of William Collins and Sarah/Susannah Butler, but it appears that way. Melba also believes records show that Susannah Collins Edwards has a sister Sarah Collins who married Joseph James Watters. The Edwards and Watters lived close together in Oglethorpe Co., GA. #1 John and Susannah are buried in Edwards Family Cem., Perry Co., AL Nathan Smith Edwards & Elizabeth Parthenia Bolling were ancestors of Melba Brady Dingler. 1850 Census, Perry County, AL, Radfordville, hh 31, Image 5 Nathaniel S.
