a. Note:   New York State Police/Batavia; about 3 years to June 1920. Special Officer of Amherst, NY; 15 June 1920 to 15 Aug 1924. Chief, Amherst Police, NY; 15 Aug 1924 to 1 Jan 1957 Retired to Florida with wife Florence [nee Young]. ---source: Amherst "Bee" article 6 Dec 1956, reprinted 26 Aug 1998. His house in Williamsville, NY, was renovated to become Florence (Young) Barnard's "Susan's" dress shop. Owned house in "Glen", Williamsville (where Florence Young lived). From Walter Evans, Jr.: Evans family emigrated from England to Virginia. Moved to Williamsville, NY, village, living at Garrison and Main Street (Evans House). After War of 1812, family moved into Buffalo, NY. Returned to Williamsville around 1910 to 1920. After Edwin Evans moved from Erie Street (no longer exists) in Buffalo to Williamsville, he became a State Trooper, constable for Village of Williamsville, and finally the first Chief of Police of Amherst, NY. Also bodyguard for Harry Altman (owner of Glen Casino night club in Williamsville, and Town Casino night club in Buffalo.) Edwin known as "Steve" to friends. Dubbed with name because he often went to a place called "Steve's" to dance. (---Walter Evans, Jr.) Child??- Gloria (singer) Child??- ... Wetzel Edwin Evans and wife Florence (nee Young) were close social friends of the Harry Altman's (owner of the nightclubs "Town Casino" in Buffalo and "Glen Park Casino" in Williamsville, NY.) The Altman's brick home was just "up the hill" from Glen Park.
