a. Note:   MASON CITY _ Clair E. Thomas, 70, of 1310 Third St. N.W., died Thursday (July 30, 1997) at his home.
 Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Jack Gannett officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.Memorials may be given to the Clair E. Thomas Memorial Fund.
 Clair E. Thomas was born Feb. 7, 1927, in Mason City, the son of Walter and Carrie (Fiero) Thomas.
 Clair attended and graduated from Mason City High School in 1945. Clair served in the U.S. Calvary from 1945-1946.
 He returned to Mason City and attended Mason City Junior College and then Grinnell College, graduating in 1951.
 He worked in Chicago, Algona, and returned to Mason City in 1957 to work with his father at Thomas Electric, where he was actively involved until his death.
 Clair married Marie Soursos on Aug. 15, 1948, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Clair enjoyed golfing, woodworking, gardening and growing green plants. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed watching them in their activities.
 He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He served on the Mason Township School Board and the H.E.W. Board. He was a former member of the Elks and Kiwanis Clubs.
 He is survived by his wife, Marie Thomas, Mason City; one son, Randi Thomas and his wife, Wanda, Mason City; one daughter, Jo E. Hain and her husband, Doug, of Nora Springs; five beloved grandchildren, Brandon, Nickolas and Chelsi Thomas, and Heidi and Kelly Hain; and several nieces and nephews.
 He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters and their husbands, Ruby and Howard Kudej and Nelda and Charles Smith.
