a. Note:   'Descendants of Randolph and Mary (Foster) Barber':
Mary was a beautiful seamstress, sewing often for others. Mary baked a fresh pie for her husband Mark every day!
While they had no children of their own, Mark's wife Mary, was very active in church youth groups. A quote from her obituary reads "Nearly 20 years ago Mrs. Barbour organized District 1 of the Young Peoples' Organization in Cass Co, an interdenominational religious group. She had headed that group and assisted in the founding of similar chapters all over the state. She had been a member of the Young America Christian Church since the age of 12.
Elmer Barber, a first cousin, wrote a story concerning them: "Young Mark Barbour married Mary Cripe and they lived in the house west of his father's across the road. Aunt Sallie (Henry Barbour's wife) brought Mark's wife over to our house one day and my Dad always raised hogs. He had two runts in the hogs and Mary asked him what he was going to do with them as they wouldn't amount to anything. Mary said to give them to her. Dad, being superstitious said, "I'll sell them to you for a nickel a piece." Aunt Sallie took one and Mary took the other one which was a sow pig. Mary took it home and scrubbed it with a brush and it grew to be a fine hog. She bred it and raised eight nice pigs. She sold the sow and pigs to Mark and bought a sewing machine which she had always wanted. And that is how Mark got started in the hog business."
