James Meheran (brother-in-law) and Nora M Sullivan (sister) were witnesses for her petition of USA citizenship. *** *** The SS Mauretania Ship Passenger Arrival Records listed Nellie Lombard, age 18, female, single, servant, able to read and write, British nationality, Irish race, last permanent residence was Youghal Ireland, father Edmund Lombard resided in Templemichael Youghal, first destination was Hartford CT and she had a ticket to Hartford, her sister paid passage [Nora paid, but not listed in this record], in possession of $5.00 cash, first time in USA, going to join cousin Ellen Curtin at 31 Lawrence Street in Hartford. Height listed as 5 feet 3 inches, dark complexion and hair with brown eyes, and born in Youghal Ireland. [Ellen (Lombard) Curtain was Nellies first cousin.] *** *** Nellie used September 19, 1890 as her birthday. Her Irish birth certificate listed December 2, 1890 as her birthday. Her birth was registered on January 26, 1891. She was born at Carrigeen, County Waterford Ireland. Nellie and Michael were married at St Lawrence O'Toole Church. Soon after Nellie arrived in the USA, she visited a cousin (perhaps William Lombard) in Fitchburg MA. *** *** Nellie worked in several different jobs, including making slippers in a factory during World War I. During the Second World War, Nellie worked at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford for a while, but she disliked the factory work. Nellie retired from the Aetna Insurance Company at 55 Elm Street, Hartford where she cleaned. Nellie returned to Ireland by airplane to see her brother William in 1960 along with daughter Katherine and niece Helen Lombard. After the visit, they went to England and returned to New York harbor on the Queen Mary ocean liner. Nellie played the concertina when she was younger. She liked to play cards, especially setback, and go to the horse races where she backed horses whose names she liked. She worked crossword puzzles and favored novels by Kathleen Norris ('Mother': Doubleday 1911, and 'The Heart of Rachel'Grossett & Dunlap 1916). ***
