  Autobiographical Sketch -- Marion T. Doss, Jr. I was born in Arizona, grew up in the mid-West (Oklahoma, Missouri, New Mexico and Kansas), and graduated from the Naval Academy in 1958. After a tour aboard the U.S.S. Hancock (CVA-19), I learned to fly helicopters and qualified as a satellite recovery helicopter aircraft commander, an anti-submarine helicopter aircraft commander, nuclear weapons delivery pilot, and flew search and rescue missions from Yankee Station and North SAR in the Gulf of Tonkin during the Vietnam War. I received a master of public administration degree in International Relations from Harvard and taught history and foreign affairs at the Naval Academy. I transitioned to naval intelligence and served in such capacity as First Coastal Zone intelligence officer/advisor to the South Vietnamese Navy, the U.S. Naval Investigative Service Office Europe Representative in Rota, Spain, the executive assistant to the program manager for all DoD counterintelligence and investigative activities, and as the director of production (and later executive officer) at the Fleet Intelligence Center, Europe and Atlantic. After leaving active naval service, I studied law at William and Mary getting the juris doctor degree in 1983 and the master of law and taxation degree in 1984. I have been teaching primarily criminal justice courses at J.M.U. since 1984. My wife is the Executive Vice President of the Harrisonburg Rockingham Chamber of Commerce and we have six children and four grandchildren. Note:   Professor Marion T. Doss Professor Marion Turner Doss, Jr., 64, a resident of 294 Franklin Street in Harrisonburg, died Friday morning, July 13, 2001 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. A son of Halaine Adda Wise Doss and the late Marion Howard Turner Doss, he was born on December 10, 1936 in Arizona. He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1980. During his active duty service he was a Naval Intelligence Officer and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He moved to Harrisonburg in 1984 to take a teaching position in the political science department at James Madison University where he was a tenured Full Professor. Professor Doss earned an Undergraduate Degree in 1958 from the U.S. Naval Academy, a Masters of Public Administration from Harvard University in 1964, a Juris Doctorate Degree from the College of William and Mary in 1983, and a Master of Tax Law Degree from the College of William and Mary in 1984. His last great passion was the work of the William R. Nelson Institute at James Madison University. Professor Doss was a Roman Catholic, attending Catholic Church of the Blessed Sacrament. On June 5, 1958, he married Patricia H. Doss who survives. Also surviving are six children, Steven K. Doss of Pittsburgh, PA., Katherine Doss Smith of Virginia Beach, VA., Christopher A. Doss of Hermosa Beach, CA., Charlton M. Doss of Hendersonville, TN., Malia C. Doss of Malibu, CA., and Anne E. Doss of Alexandria, VA; four grandchildren; mother, Halaine Adda Wise Doss of Overbrook, KS., and one brother, George Doss of Overbrook, KS. Following cremation, a Mass of the Resurrection will be held Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the Catholic Church of the Blessed Sacrament with Father Ken Wood officiating. Members of the family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:00 Sunday evening at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home.   Marion Doss Jr. HARRISONBURG, VA. -- Marion Turner Doss Jr., 64, formerly of Topeka, died Friday, July 13, 2001, at a Harrisonburg, Va. hospital. Mr. Doss served as a naval aviator and naval intelligence officer. He recovered the Apollo Six space capsule from the Pacific Ocean. He served two tours of duty during the Vietnam War and attended graduate school at Harvard University, where he earned a master's of public administration degree. He served in a variety of executive staff positions at the Pentagon and Fleet Intelligence Center in Norfolk, Va. He received the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal and the Air Medal. He retired from the Navy in 1980 and studied law at the College of William and Mary in Virginia, where he graduated in 1984 with a juris doctorate and master's of tax law degree. He was a tenured full professor at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va. He was born Dec. 10, 1936, in Phoenix, to Marion Howard Turner and Halaine Adda Wise Doss. He graduated from Highland Park High School in 1954 and attended the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., graduating with distinction in 1958. Survivors include his wife, Patricia H. Doss; three sons, Steven K. Doss, Pittsburgh, Christopher A. Doss, Hermosa Beach, Calif., and Charlton M. Doss, Hendersonville, Tenn.; three daughters, Katherine Doss Smith, Virginia Beach, Va., Malia Doss, Malibu, Calif., and Anne E. Doss, Alexandria, Va.; and a brother, George W. Doss, Scranton.
