Notes
a. Note:   Snowden Taylor Anchors was born in maryland and moved to gerogia in the 1840's. He worked for the railroad. He married Eleanor patterson in Clarke Co., Georgia in 1845. They moved to Chambers Co., Alabama where they are found in the 1850 census. By 1858 Snowden has moved to Shelby, Alabama. He worked for the railroad that serviced the Shelby iron Works. The Shelby iron Works made iron cladding for Confederate war ships duri The War for Southern Independence. He would become the superintendent f the ore bank at the Shelby iron Works by the early 1870's. After having bore him 10 children Eleanor would die of pnuemonia in 1872. In 1876 he would wed Fannie Nabors. She would give him two more sons. Snowden died at his home in Columbianna, Alabama in 1897. His obit states that he is buried at the cemetery in Columbianna. I have found no marked grave for him or Fannie. There is an area in this grave yard by fannie's parents that could be their final resting place. Eleanor is buried at the Shelby iron Works Cemetery along with three of her grandchildren. The place beside her intended for Snowden was never used. One of his children, Ellen Anchors Walburn, left a story handed down in her family about Snowden. He toldher that he was working on a train bound for Augusta when the locomotive struck a cow. When they stopped the train to inspect the damage they found the cow perched on the front of the engine facing out. One of the Black porters exclaimed " Why she's all dressed up and headed for "Gusta" . This became a popular saying in the Walburn family whenever anyone was all dressed up for any event.
